Lay Degree Students

Borrowing Privileges
For lay degree students, the loan period for circulating books is 30 days with two 30-day renewals. Books can be renewed online using the link at the top of the library’s search page, by calling the library at (800) 987-7311 or (812) 357-6401, or in person at the Circulation Desk. DVDs, videocassettes and CDs from the Vibrary have a seven-day loan period with two seven-day renewals. To begin borrowing books, lay degree students must complete and sign an application.

Access to Online Resources
Databases, online journals, e-books and electronic reference sources, such as the Oxford English Dictionary and Oxford Reference Online, can be accessed from any computer on the Hill. For off-campus access, users need to log in to use electronic resources. When attempting to access these resources from off campus, users will be prompted to enter their 14-digit library account numbers and the first five letters of their last names. The library can supply users with their account numbers by phone at (800) 987-7311 or (812) 357-6401, or by email.

Interlibrary Loan
If Archabbey Library does not have a book or article, it will borrow it from another library at the user’s request. In most cases, there is no charge for this service. To request something through Interlibrary Loan, send a request by email or drop off a request at the Circulation Desk. All Interlibrary Loan materials must be picked up at Archabbey Library. If unable to pick up requested materials at the Archabbey Library, it may be more effective to try to find the material at an academic library or use the Interlibrary Loan service of a local public library. Almost all public libraries will request material for local patrons through Interlibrary Loan without charge.

Borrowing from Other Libraries
Saint Meinrad has reciprocal borrowing arrangements with the following library consortia:

Academic Libraries of Indiana
Almost every college and university in Indiana is a member of Academic Libraries of Indiana (ALI). Anyone with borrowing privileges at an ALI library can borrow items directly from other ALI libraries. Click on the link to see the list of ALI member libraries. To set up borrowing privileges at an ALI library, please begin by contacting the Archabbey Library by phone at (800) 987-7311 or (812) 357-6401, or by email.

Team-A Libraries
Team-A is a consortium of five seminary libraries in southern Indiana and northern Kentucky. Member libraries are the Archabbey Library, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary Library, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Library, Ashbury Theological Seminary Library and Lexington Theological Seminary Library.

Document Delivery
If you are unable to get to the library and you need a copy of an article from a periodical or a short section of a book owned by the Archabbey Library that is accessible only in print format, we will send you a PDF copy of the article. For document delivery, send the library an email with your request.

Research Consultation
A librarian will be glad to help you find books and articles for your research. You can make a request for research assistance by calling (812) 357-6566 or by emailing Dan Kolb.
