Financial Information

Saint Meinrad School of Theology assists students financially through the programs listed below. To apply for financial aid, a student should contact the Director of Financial Aid. All financial aid awards are subject to availability.

Employment Opportunities
The Federal Work-Study Program provides full-time students with part-time jobs to earn expense money. A student may earn up to $1,000 annually.

Loans
Federal Guaranteed Student Loans are available to qualifying students.

Return of Title IV Funds Due to Student Withdrawal
For current financial aid recipients, a tuition percentage will be determined based on the return of Title IV funds regulations. The Office of Financial Aid determines the return of the Title IV funds percentage and informs the Office of the Registrar.

Institutions are required to determine the percentage of Title IV aid “earned” by the student and return the unearned portion to the appropriate aid program. This percentage is determined by the percentage of the enrollment period completed by the student.

If the type of aid that the student is responsible for returning is a loan, then the student is not required to immediately repay the amount, as the grace period for the loan, generally six months, is invoked. If the type of aid that the student is responsible for returning is a grant, then the student will incur a charge on his or her school statement.

The student’s grace period for loan repayments for federal unsubsidized and subsidized Stafford Loans will begin on the day of withdrawal from the School of Theology. Students should contact the lender if they have questions regarding their grace period or repayment status.

Government Assistance to Veterans
Saint Meinrad School of Theology has been approved for veterans’ educational benefits under Section 1775 of Title 38 of the United States Code. New students applying for veterans’ educational benefits should contact the Registrar upon their arrival at Saint Meinrad.

Tuition Refund Policy
Saint Meinrad School of Theology complies with the refund policy established by the 1992 reauthorization of the Higher Education Act. A refund for fall and spring semester tuition will be based on the following criteria:

If the withdrawal occurs during:

weeks one and two   80% refund
weeks three and four   60% refund
weeks five and six   40% refund
weeks seven and eight   20% refund

After eight weeks, there is no refund. There is no refund for January Interterm classes.

Room and Board Refund Policy
Resident students who withdraw before the semester’s end will be charged $25 per day in residence. Charges other than tuition and room and board are not refundable.

January Interterm
Since no additional tuition or room and board is charged to full-time students for January Interterm, there is no refund for students who enroll in programs off-campus. Students are responsible for all Interterm program expenses other than those offered at Saint Meinrad School of Theology.

Theological Book Endowment
Should he not have them already, each seminarian beginning his studies at Saint Meinrad receives the following books: Liturgy of the Hours (four-volume set), Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the Harper-Collins Study Bible, NRSV translation.

At the appropriate times during his course of studies, each seminarian also receives the Code of Canon Law, the Sacramentary and a study edition of the Lectionary. The donation of these books to our seminarians is made possible by the Theological Book Fund, an endowment established by an anonymous benefactor who wished to ensure that all seminarians could begin their priestly formation and education with the basic theological tools.

Multicultural Ministry Funds
Master of Divinity students who participate in the Mexican-American Catholic College Spanish-language programs or other intensive language programs that prepare them to minister with the Hispanic community are eligible to apply for grants from Saint Meinrad’s GAR Foundation Endowment. Depending on the number of applicants and funds available per year, monies are awarded to help with room, board, tuition and personal expenses.

Funds are also available through the Arnold F. and Barbara T. Habig Endowment for Priestly Ministry in the Multicultural Church.

Marsha and Fred Souders Endowment
The Marsha and Fred Souders Endowment was established to help fund special learning opportunities for students, such as Holy Land studies, a study tour of Rome or programs of the Mexican-American Catholic College.

Financial Aid Notification
All financial aid awards are subject to availability of funds. Students who receive an award letter for financial aid are responsible for signing up for classes and submitting their paperwork in a timely manner to ensure they receive the funds.
